Accelerated orthodontics

That moment always comes...

You glance at yourself in the mirror just before heading out to dinner with friends… and suddenly, you freeze: it’s no longer your reflection you see, but your mother’s face looking back at you.
Of course, a life well lived inevitably leaves its mark on our faces. But that doesn’t mean we have to accept those marks without doing anything about them.
The good news? While visiting your orthodontist to perfect your smile, you can also rejuvenate your face with Botox®.
In this article, Dr. Benguira, based in Saint-Eustache, explains the many uses of Botox and why orthodontists are perfectly qualified to administer it.

Botox, in a few words

On April 15, 2002, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved Botox as a temporary aesthetic treatment for moderate to severe forehead wrinkles.
Since then, it has become one of the most popular solutions among professionals and patients alike.
And for good reason: Botox is now the global gold standard in wrinkle-reducing injections. In 2022, over 9.2 million people used it—nearly 4 million of them in the U.S.—to regain a younger, more relaxed appearance.
The principle is simple: once injected, botulinum toxin type A relaxes the muscles responsible for wrinkles by blocking the transmission of nerve signals. The result: the skin naturally smooths out, and wrinkles fade.

Much more than just a wrinkle treatment

The major advantage of Botox is that it’s not just for facial rejuvenation. Its ability to block nerve signals also makes it an excellent treatment for other conditions, such as:
- Bruxism (teeth grinding)
- Chronic migraines
- Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders
At Dr. Benguira’s clinic, we believe that a radiant smile combined with a relaxed face is a winning combination. Botox also allows us to help patients suffering from jaw pain caused by bruxism or teeth clenching—two common sources of headaches.
The injections target the jaw muscles with a dosage strong enough to relieve tension without interfering with natural facial functions. This means you keep your expressions—while the pain fades away.

Why see an orthodontist for Botox injections?

While dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons were the first to offer Botox treatments, orthodontists are just as well-trained for this type of procedure.
Why? Because they are true specialists in facial anatomy—from the chin to the forehead—the exact area where Botox is most commonly used.
During their studies, dentists and orthodontists receive extensive training in facial anatomy, including muscles, nerves, and bone structures. Most importantly, they are injection experts: they perform local anesthetics every day with pinpoint precision.
This technical expertise allows them to perform Botox injections that are safe, effective, and natural-looking.

A quick treatment with a rejuvenating effect

A typical Botox session lasts around 15 minutes.
Dr. Benguira begins by gently cooling the treatment area to reduce any sensation from the needle, then performs 3 to 5 micro-injections.
This minimally invasive treatment requires no incisions and no recovery time—you can even have it done during your lunch break!
Initial results typically appear between 5 and 10 days, with effects lasting from 3 to 6 months, depending on the areas treated.
Since the effects are temporary, many patients choose to repeat the injections regularly to maintain a relaxed, radiant appearance.
