Frequently Asked Questions — NIHB

What documents do I need to bring?

A valid Status Indian card or proof of registration as Inuit. A photo ID is also helpful.

How long does approval take?

Generally 2 to 8 weeks. We follow up regularly and inform you as soon as we receive a response.

Does NIHB cover clear aligners?

The program generally covers traditional metal braces. Metal braces are just as effective for your treatment.

Are there any fees if the treatment is approved?

No. For approved treatments, we bill the program directly. No upfront costs or fees for you.

What happens if my application is denied?

We will discuss options: possibility of appeal, other financing options, interest-free payment plans.

Is my child eligible?

If your child is registered as a First Nations member or recognized as Inuit, they are eligible. Applications for children have a good approval rate.
